AUDIO: My daughter fainted from the shock – Father of bride speaks on wedding day tragedy

The father of Florence Debrah, the bride whose fiancé tragically died during their wedding ceremony at Akyem Anamase, has shared his heart-wrenching account of the devastating events.

In an emotional interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr. Debrah recounted the circumstances leading to Chief Inspector Godwin Beniba’s untimely death.

According to Mr. Debrah, the late Chief Inspector Beniba had been hospitalised the day before the wedding after complaining of ill health. Despite being discharged on the morning of the ceremony, his condition took a tragic turn.

“He wasn’t feeling well on Thursday, so he was taken to the hospital. On Friday, he was discharged and came to the hotel for the wedding. Not long after his arrival, he complained of feeling unwell again,” Mr. Debrah said.

Efforts were made to stabilise him with a drip at the venue, but the groom’s condition worsened rapidly.

“The nurse tried her best, but it was clear things weren’t improving. Then, the nurse pronounced him dead. It was a shocking moment. People began calling the town to spread the news,” he added.

The news of her fiancé’s death was too much for Florence to bear. Mr. Debrah recounted the moment she was informed and collapsed from the shock.

“When my daughter heard the news, she fainted. We rushed to revive her, praying desperately. By God’s grace, we managed to bring her back, but she was utterly broken. She couldn’t believe it,” he said, his voice heavy with emotion.

Hopes were briefly reignited when word spread that Chief Inspector Beniba might still be alive.

“We rushed to the hospital to confirm, but the doctors checked and told us he was gone. It was devastating.”

The tragedy left wedding guests, many of whom had travelled long distances, in deep sorrow. Preparations for the celebration were abandoned, and the mood at the venue turned sombre.

“All the food and decorations were ready, but no one could eat. Everything went to waste. The grief was too much for anyone to bear,” Mr. Debrah said.

He spoke fondly of Chief Inspector Beniba, calling him a man of integrity who was highly respected in the community.

“He was a protector and a unifier. Even in his role as a police officer, he always ensured the safety of everyone during events. He was a good man, and his loss is a blow not just to our family but to the entire community.”

In the face of this unimaginable loss, Mr. Debrah urged people to cherish life and lean on their faith.

“Life is fragile. Let this experience be a lesson to everyone. We must depend on God and value every moment. Anything can happen at any time. Always walk with God,” he advised.

Chief Inspector Beniba, who served as the station officer at Anamase Police Station, collapsed shortly after arriving at the wedding venue. Witnesses said he appeared dizzy before suddenly collapsing. Despite being rushed to the Anamase Clinic, he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The loss has left the Akyem Anamase community and beyond in mourning, with tears flowing freely as family, friends, and colleagues grapple with the unexpected tragedy.

For Florence Debrah and her family, what was meant to be a day of celebration has become a lifelong reminder of love lost and the unpredictability of life.
