The African University College of Communications (AUCC) has officially attained full university status, receiving presidential assent to operate as an autonomous institution.
This landmark achievement was announced on Thursday, December 19, 2024, marking a pivotal moment in the university’s history.
Now renamed the African University of Communications and Business (AUCB), the institution embraces an expanded mission to combine excellence in communication and media studies with cutting-edge, industry-focused programs in business and entrepreneurship.
This new direction positions the university as a leading Pan-African institution delivering world-class education tailored to the evolving global landscape.
AUCB’s success is rooted in the mentorship and guidance it has received from several prominent Ghanaian universities, including the University of Ghana, University of Cape Coast, Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration, and University of Education, Winneba. The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission and the Ministry of Education also played crucial roles in this achievement.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to these esteemed institutions for their unwavering support,” stated Professor Isaac Abeku Blankson, President and Head of University Relations.
Founded in 2002 by the Honourable Kojo Yankah as the African Institute of Journalism and Communications (AIJC), the institution began as Africa’s first journalism and communication school. Over the years, it has evolved, adding the Sam E. Jonah School of Business in 2014 and graduating leaders who have significantly impacted Ghana’s communication, media, and business sectors.
As a chartered university, AUCB remains committed to equipping its students with skills and knowledge to thrive in a dynamic economic and social environment.
The AUCB community—comprising faculty, staff, students, alumni, and partners—celebrates this significant milestone as a testament to the institution’s dedication to academic excellence and societal impact.
“This is more than a milestone; it’s a commitment to shaping the future of education and professional development in Africa,” remarked Professor Blankson.
With its redefined vision, AUCB continues to cement its place as a beacon of academic and professional excellence on the continent.
