Asante Akyim North MP Clarifies Discovery of 3,000 Bags of Fertiliser in Agogo Warehouse

The outgoing Member of Parliament (MP) for Asante Akyem North, Andy Appiah-Kubi, has addressed concerns surrounding the discovery of 3,000 bags of fertiliser in a warehouse at Agogo.

The fertiliser was uncovered by members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who claimed to be part of the Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) task force on Saturday, December 28, 2024. Allegations of wrongdoing quickly surfaced, prompting a response from the MP.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Appiah-Kubi clarified that the fertiliser was intended for distribution to farmers and not for any illicit purposes.

“These fertilisers are not mine. Over the years, we have been distributing them to farmers. Last year, we focused on rice farmers and also provided weedicides. We’ve always kept the stock in a warehouse for distribution,” he explained.

The MP revealed that the distribution process, which began two years ago, was paused due to logistical challenges during the December 7 election period.

“We were handicapped with personnel to handle the distribution, so we had to suspend the process temporarily,” Appiah-Kubi said.

Appiah-Kubi disclosed that part of the fertiliser stock had been stored in an assembly warehouse but was later looted by unknown individuals.

“The theft was reported to the police, and investigations commenced. Following the robbery, I sought space in a private warehouse to secure the remaining stock,” he added.

The MP emphasised that the fertiliser was not being hoarded for sale or any underhanded deals, stressing that his constituents could vouch for the integrity of the initiative.

“This is about supporting farmers, not exploiting them. My track record in this constituency speaks for itself,” he stated.

The clarification comes amidst heightened political tensions as the NDC continues its “Operation Recover All Loot” efforts. Appiah-Kubi has called for calm and urged the public to focus on fostering development rather than unnecessary suspicion.
