The prosecution, led by Chief Jonas Lawer, stated that Joseph Agemba allegedly approached his first complainant, Patience Solomon, in November 2023.

Solomon, an immigration officer, was informed by her husband that Joseph Agemba, who was said to be connected to National Security, could secure protocol recruitment slots in various security services.

Agemba reportedly confirmed to Solomon that he could assist individuals in enlisting with agencies such as the Ghana Police Service, Immigration, Prisons, Armed Forces, and the Ghana Revenue Authority.

He charged fees ranging from GH₵7,000 to GH₵22,000 per person for the enlistment process.

Solomon, trusting Agemba’s claims, paid the required fees and also introduced others to the scheme.

A total of GH₵1,931,000 was allegedly deposited into six different mobile money accounts provided by the accused.

Additionally, Joseph Agemba collected GH₵54,000 from Solomon under the pretence of securing her an auctioned vehicle and another GH₵87,000 from two individuals for USA and German visas, all of which failed to materialise.

Following suspicions of foul play, Solomon reported the matter to the police, leading to Agemba’s arrest.

The prosecution argued for his remand to prevent interference with ongoing investigations, as more victims were coming forward.

The court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Addo, agreed with the prosecution’s submission, citing the gravity of the allegations.

Agemba has been remanded into police custody and is set to reappear on December 27, 2024.

The case highlights a growing trend of fraudulent activities exploiting the desperation of job seekers and individuals seeking travel opportunities.

Authorities have urged the public to verify claims and processes through official channels to avoid falling victim to scams.

Investigations into the case continue, with the possibility of additional charges being filed as more victims are identified.
