The Krontihene of Akyem Asoum, Nana Boadi Amponim Abodade III, has issued a strong critique of outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, declaring that Ghanaian chiefs will not accept another leader like him.
In an interview on GHOne TV, Nana Boadi expressed disappointment over what he described as the president’s strained relationship with traditional rulers, calling it a blemish on his legacy.
“A good friend of mine, who is also a chief, told me once, ‘Let’s see if he will come around and instruct chiefs to stand up to greet him.’ It’s not a good legacy,” Nana Boadi shared, referencing instances where chiefs were allegedly pressured to display undue reverence toward President Akufo-Addo.
The Krontihene’s remarks come amidst broader reflections on the president’s administration as traditional leaders and citizens assess its cultural and social impact.
Nana Boadi lamented what he viewed as a missed opportunity to strengthen ties between the presidency and the chieftaincy institution.
“He could have done more,” he said, pointing to what he described as squandered chances to foster goodwill and respect within Ghana’s traditional governance framework.
As the nation looks toward the future, Nana Boadi urged citizens to carefully consider the qualities of the country’s next leader.
“We pray we don’t get another Akufo-Addo to be president of Ghana,” he declared, underscoring his hope for a leader who prioritises unity and respect for Ghana’s cultural heritage.
