JoyNews has reported that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), has conferred with President Akufo-Addo over his choice of a running mate for the December 7 presidential election.
Tuesday night, a meeting was held at the Jubilee House, according to Elton Brobbey, JoyNews’ Presidential Affairs correspondent.
Dr. Bawumia, the vice president, gave the president his selection for a running mate during the meeting.
He clarified that although sharing his opinions and offering some advise, President Akufo-Addo ultimately decided to accept Dr. Bawumia’s decision.
The chosen candidate, according to him, is a 56-year-old physician who completed his studies at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
“.. He was elected to the Parliament for the first time in 2008, and he was re-elected in 2012, 2016 and 2020. He was a member of the Parliamentary Health Appointments, Defence, and Interior Committees.
He was appointed Education Minister by President Akufo-Addo in 2017, and he is currently the Energy Minister. “Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, is the name,” he stated.
