Airforce Z9 Helicopter Missing – Ghana Armed Forces

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has confirmed that one of its Air Force Z9 helicopters has gone missing after eyewitness reports of a fiery crash at Adansi Akrofuom in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

In a statement, the GAF said the helicopter, carrying three crew members and five passengers, departed Accra en route to Obuasi but went off radar during the flight.

“The aircraft was from Accra and heading for Obuasi and is currently off the radar. All efforts are being made to establish contact,” the statement noted.

The military’s confirmation follows accounts from local residents who reported that a helicopter had crashed into a tree and burst into flames near the community. Witnesses said the wreckage was burned beyond recognition, with body parts scattered at the scene.

The occupants were reportedly traveling to attend an event in Obuasi.

Emergency teams, including military investigators, have been deployed to the site to confirm whether the missing helicopter is the same one involved in the crash. The cause of the incident remains unclear, though eyewitnesses suggested poor weather conditions in the area could have been a factor.

The GAF says it will provide further updates as search and recovery efforts continue.
