African Paralympic Committee congratulates Ghana’s president-elect, praises sports development vision

The African Paralympic Committee (AfPC) and the broader Paralympic movement across Africa have extended heartfelt congratulations to Ghana’s president-elect following his decisive victory in the 2024 presidential elections.

In a statement, Samson Deen, the president of the AfPC, expressed confidence in the incoming president’s leadership and vision for the nation’s socio-economic development.

The AfPC commended the president-elect’s track record in recognising the importance of sports for national development. Deen highlighted the president-elect’s transformative policy approach, which focuses on long-term investments in sports infrastructure, talent development, and human resources.

“We have no doubt about your capabilities to lead this great West African nation to the next level of prosperity through your visionary and inclusive policies,” Deen said.

The statement also referenced the president-elect’s efforts to implement a comprehensive National Sports Policy, aimed at promoting lifelong participation, inclusivity, and governance in sports.

The AfPC also expressed anticipation for further collaboration with the incoming government in the development and promotion of disability sports across Africa. Ghana is currently the host country for the AfPC’s headquarters, with a Ghanaian president leading the committee.

Additionally, Ghana successfully hosted the inaugural African Para Games in 2023, an achievement that further solidified the nation’s commitment to supporting disability sports.

“The AfPC looks forward to working with you and your government to accelerate the development and promotion of sports in general, with a special focus on disability sports,” Deen stated.

The AfPC also emphasised the importance of structured sports administration under the new leadership, particularly to ensure proper governance, management, and inclusivity in the sector.

The African Paralympic Committee expressed its eagerness to support efforts that align with the African Union’s Sports Agenda 2063, focusing on sports as a driver for economic and social development.

On behalf of the Executive Board and the Membership of the AfPC, Deen concluded with a heartfelt congratulations to the president-elect, wishing him divine success in the challenging yet rewarding journey ahead.
