Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, is calling for a broader national dialogue and accountability on Ghana’s controversial banking sector clean-up, following the Attorney-General’s decision to drop charges against former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and seven others linked to the collapse of uniBank.
The Attorney-General’s filing of a nolle prosequi effectively ends a long-standing case that stemmed from the Bank of Ghana’s 2018 decision to revoke uniBank’s license over alleged insolvency and mismanagement.
Speaking on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Mr. Adongo questioned the logic and cost of the cleanup, which he claims drained over GH₵30 billion from public coffers.

“I think the country must open a bigger conversation into the decisions and rationale behind collapsing the banks and spending 30 billion, when it’s now clear we just avoided a 6.9 billion problem with just 2 billion,” he argued.
Adongo suggested that the crisis may have been exaggerated and poorly managed, and he is demanding full transparency on how the funds were used.
He concluded with a call for accountability from those who oversaw the financial sector reforms, saying Ghanaians deserve answers on whether the sweeping bank closures were in the public’s best interest.
