Accept the results in humility – Speaker Bagbin’s call for reflection after 2024 elections
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called on Ghanaians to embrace unity and acceptance in the wake of the 2024 general elections.
Delivering his Christmas message, Bagbin reflected on the year’s challenges and emphasised the need for collective efforts toward nation-building.
Addressing the election results, Speaker Bagbin described them as the will of God and urged all citizens to accept the outcome with humility and introspection.
“None of us thought this would be the outcome of the 2024 general elections. But as God would have it, it has happened. My call is for us to accept the results in humility and reflect on what went wrong and what went right, both individually and as a nation.”
Bagbin stressed the importance of unity for Ghana’s development, cautioning against division, tribalism, and hatred.
“Without a nation, we live in silos, divided by tribes, which opens the door to hatred. It’s critical for us to come together, dialogue, and use peaceful means under the rule of law to resolve our differences.”
He emphasised that national cohesion is essential for overcoming challenges and fostering progress.
The speaker directed a message of optimism to Ghanaian youth, highlighting the country’s potential and its standing as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
“The future is bright. Ghana remains a beacon of democracy and a source of hope for the African continent. We are still the Mecca of the Black race.”
Bagbin commended Ghana’s 32 years of multiparty democracy, urging citizens to build on this legacy.
He lauded traditional leaders, clergy, and the media for their roles in sustaining governance and development.
“The media have played a critical role. Without them, we’d be in darkness. They have lubricated the wheels of governance.”
The speaker expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for their contributions to national progress. He extended warm festive greetings, saying:
“I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. May the good Lord continue to bless us and make our nation greater and stronger.”
Bagbin’s heartfelt message serves as a rallying call for unity, acceptance, and hope as Ghana moves forward into a new chapter.
