Coach Otto Addo announces 23-Man Squad for 2025 AFCON qualifiers

Head Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has announced a 23-man squad for the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger, scheduled for early next month.

The squad will assemble on Monday, September 2, 2024, to begin preparations for the qualifiers. The first match will take place on September 5 in Kumasi, followed by the second match on September 10 in Berkane.

Addo’s selection remains consistent with the core team, featuring no major surprises. Key players such as Thomas Partey, Kudus Mohammed, Jordan Ayew, Lawrence Ati-Zie, and Abdul Fatawu Issahaku have all been included in the lineup.

Returning to the squad are Kingsley Schindler, who plays in Turkey, Majeed Ashimeru from Anderlecht, winger Joseph Painstil and Athletic Bilbao forward Inaki Williams. These players were absent during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic in June.

Additionally, Brighton & Hove Albion full-back Tariq Lamptey and Cercle Brugge midfielder Francis Abu are included in the squad.

Notably absent from this selection are team captain Andre Ayew and defender Daniel Amartey.

The Black Stars will kick off their AFCON qualifying campaign against Angola on Thursday, September 5, at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, before facing Niger on September 9 in Berkane.

The team is coming off a strong performance in June, where they secured consecutive victories over Mali and the Central African Republic in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
