Roads Ministry reopens Atimpoku-Asikuma road, plans repairs on Juapong-Ho bridge

Following heavy floods that momentarily hampered travel, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has declared the reopening of the Atimpoku-Asikuma road.

This comes after a strong downpour caused the Juapong to Ho road to collapse, as reported by Puretvonline.com previously.

The Ministry said in a press release on June 30, 2024, that the 8.2-meter-span bridge over the Fodoga River is still in good shape after the Ghana Highway Authority conducted an assessment.

The Atimpoku-Asikuma road near the police barrier has collapsed due to severe flooding after a heavy downpour of rain on Saturday, June 29, 2024, according to a viral video on social media that has caught the attention of the Ministry of Roads and Highways.

Nevertheless, about 120 metres of the road’s hardened surface were harmed by the flood. In addition to arranging to work with the Ghana Hydrological Authority to enhance the river’s flow and avert further flooding, the Ministry is gathering funds for urgent repairs.

However, more research indicates that the water damaged around 120 metres of the road’s sealed surface. To prevent the flood from happening again, the river’s free flow must also be improved.

In response to public concerns raised by a widely shared social media video, the Ministry reiterated its dedication to fixing road network issues across the country. It asked drivers to participate with improving projects.
