A Member of Parliament (MP) from North Tongu has demanded that the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) management step down in order to make room for the hiring of capable individuals.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa’s call relates to the sale of 60% of SSNIT’s hotel holdings to Bryan Acheampong, the Agriculture Minister, and Abetifi MP’s Rock City Hotel.
The move was incorrect, according to Mr. Ablakwa, who has petitioned the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to look into and halt the sale.
The hotels Ridge Royal Hotel, Busua Beach Resort, Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, and the Trust Lodge Hotel are among those included in the petition.
Speaking on Tuesday on Adom FM’s morning show Dwaso Nsem, which Puretvonline.com was able to monitor, he said that SSNIT’s request came about because it was unable to administer the facilities as a result of selling over half of its stake.
“They have no business holding those offices if the SSNIT management is telling us they cannot be efficient. Let’s recruit people who are efficient and have the right acumen,” he said.
After the petition was filed, SSNIT released a statement stating that the sale’s selection procedure was open and strictly compliant with the Public Procurement Act, but the hunt for a strategic investor was not yet over.
Among the proposals received, Mr. Acheampong’s Rock City Hotel Limited submitted the strongest and most well-thought-out technical and financial plan, according to the requirements outlined in the Request for Proposals (RFP).
However, Mr. Ablakwa maintains that there was a conflict of interest, claiming that because Mr. Acheampong holds a position of authority, SSNIT biassed the proceedings in favour of Rock City Hotel.
