Police file injunction against Yvonne Nelson’s #DumsorMustStop vigil

The Accra Regional Police Command urged the protest organisers to think about changing the protest’s venue, and the Ghana Police Service filed an application for an injunction at the High Court to prevent Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson from carrying out her planned demonstration against the erratic power supply, dubbed the “#DumsorMustStop” vigil.

The demonstration is scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024.

The actress claims that the intermittent power cut, known locally as “dumsor,” is affecting her business, and she organized a protest of a similar nature in 2015.

In accordance with the law, Yvonne Nelson and her group met with the Ghana Police Service a few days earlier to inform them of the planned protest.

Following the discussion, the police objected to the path that Yvonne Nelson’s team had recommended, arguing that Revolution Square, the intended destination, is near the Jubilee House, a security area.

The police expressed apprehension regarding the plan to conclude the demonstration at midnight.

On the other hand, the demonstration organizers disagreed, stating that there were no problems with the event’s conclusion time and that the endpoint was far from the Jubilee House.
