Mahama’s promise to resolve free SHS issues within 100 days must be scrutinize – Governance Expert

The Executive Director of the Kwame Nkrumah Centre for Ideology, Governance, and Leadership, Joseph Kwadwo Afari-Yeboah, has raised an alarm concerning a promise made by the NDC’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, on his intention to resolve issues within the free SHS policy within 100 days if elected president.

According to him, all these campaign promises must be scrutinize.

This comes after John Dramani Mahama has stated that his next government will give top priority to resolving the issues surrounding the implementation of the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy if voted into power.

Mahama reveals his plans to boost the education sector when he met some teacher unions, including Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), and the Coalition of Concerned Teachers.

“Within the first 100 days of me becoming president, we will hold a stakeholder dialogue on education. It will have as part of its focus the implementational bottlenecks of the Free SHS, but it is also going to deal with how we can improve financing and teaching and learning at the basic school level and so at that stakeholder’s engagement, NAGRAT, GNAT, parents, students, educational experts, everybody is going to be there and we are going to have a discussion on access, on equity, on affordability, and on financing our educational system”, Mahama emphasized.

It is prior to this Kwadwo Afari-Yeboah urges Ghanaians to rise to their to feet and scrutinize such promises as 2024 general elections approaches.

“He promise to deal with the challenges within 100 days when we all know by then he will still be dealing with appointments. He does not mention what he presumes the challenges really are. He is now going to organise stakeholder engagement to find the supposed solution. The Free SHS has been running for over 6years now and the NDC hasn’t gotten a policy research team to study and come with the needed reforms they always talk about”?, Kwadwo Afari-Yeboah emphasized.
