Semenyo Lifts First Major Trophy As Man City Beat Arsenal In Carabao Cup Final

Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo has lifted the first major trophy of his career after playing a key role in Manchester City’s 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final.

The 26-year-old, who only joined City during the January transfer window from AFC Bournemouth, completed the full 90 minutes as Pep Guardiola’s side secured the season’s first domestic silverware.

The city’s victory was sealed in the second half through a brace from Nico O’Reilly, who delivered a match-winning performance to hand the Premier League champions the trophy. Semenyo, deployed largely on the right flank, also came close to getting on the scoresheet, narrowly missing the target with a curling effort after cutting inside.

The triumph marks a milestone for the Ghana international, whose rise has gathered pace over the past year following impressive displays at Bournemouth before his high-profile move to Manchester. His immediate impact at City has now been crowned with silverware in his debut campaign.

Semenyo’s achievement also places him in a select group of Ghanaian players to have won the competition. He becomes the first since Michael Essien, who lifted the trophy with Chelsea during the 2006/07 season.

Speaking after the match, the forward expressed optimism about his future success. “First trophy of many, I hope! God’s got a plan,” he said.

“It might not work out; you might not know why, but the answer always reveals itself.”

Attention now shifts to international duty, with Semenyo expected to join the Black Stars camp in Vienna ahead of upcoming friendly matches against Austria and Germany later this week, as Ghana continues preparations for future competitions.
