Ghanaians Should Brace For Fuel Price Hikes – Kwadwo Nsafoah

Energy analyst and New Patriotic Party (NPP) member Kwadwo Poku Nsafoah has warned that Ghanaians should brace for increases in fuel prices over the next few pricing windows, citing damage to critical oil infrastructure as a major factor.

Speaking on The Big Issue on Channel One TV on Saturday, March 21, Mr Nsafoah said that attacks on essential oil facilities could have long-term consequences for global fuel supply and, by extension, Ghanaian consumers.

“We might go on increments of prices for the next two, three windows, because we’ve seen the bombing of infrastructure, and some of us warned that, look, the war can go on as long as infrastructure is not bombed.

“But when infrastructure is bombed, it becomes a problem because then, after the war, it will take time for normality to occur because infrastructure takes six months to one year to fix,” he said.

He called on the government to take proactive steps to cushion citizens, including scrapping the GH¢1 fuel levy, which he said would immediately relieve some of the pressure on consumers at the pumps.

According to him, the anticipated price increases could place additional financial strain on households and businesses, particularly as many Ghanaians are already grappling with high living costs.

“The levy was introduced when fuel prices were relatively low. Keeping it now, as prices continue to rise, only deepens the burden on Ghanaians,” he stated.
