The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has named former Member of Parliament and Minister Inusah Fuseini to replace Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga on the three-member committee investigating alleged vote-buying and inducements during the party’s Ayawaso East parliamentary primaries.
The announcement was made on social media by the NDC General Secretary, Fifi Fiave Kwetey, following Mr Ayariga’s decision to step down.
The party explained that Ayariga’s continued participation had become “untenable” after the Majority Caucus in Parliament publicly called for the cancellation of the election.

The committee, chaired by veteran politician Kofi Totobi Quakyi and including Ayariga and lawyer Emefa Fugah, was given a deadline of Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to submit its findings.
It was tasked with investigating claims of widespread inducement and vote-buying during the primaries, which were held last Saturday, and recommending sanctions or reforms as necessary.
“In line with the Party’s commitment to internal democracy, transparency, and ethical political conduct, the Committee will investigate the allegations and make appropriate recommendations, including sanctions where necessary,” Kwetey’s statement said.
The probe follows reports that Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed allegedly distributed items, including 32-inch television sets and boiled eggs, to delegates during the voting process. Party insiders and delegates said these were perceived as inducements and may have influenced voting outcomes, contributing to his victory.
The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is separately probing allegations of vote-buying in both the NPP presidential primaries and the NDC Ayawaso East contest.
Fuseini’s appointment is expected to ensure that the investigation continues without disruption and to reinforce the party’s commitment to upholding the integrity of its internal electoral processes.
The panel is also tasked with proposing long-term reforms aimed at ending inducement and vote-buying in future internal contests.
