The Kwahuhene, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III, has assured Ghanaians that Kwahu remains peaceful and will never descend into conflict, as the traditional area prepares to host thousands of visitors for the 2026 Easter festivities.
He gave the assurance during the first Akwasidaekese ceremony of the year, which was successfully held at the Kwahu Abene Durbar Grounds in a grand and colourful display of unity, tradition, and cultural resilience.
The ceremony attracted divisional, wing and sub-chiefs, queen mothers, and Adikro from across the Kwahu Traditional Area, underscoring collective commitment to the preservation of Kwahu customs and chieftaincy institutions.

In Akan tradition, sacred rites such as Akwasidaekese are customarily performed at the palace to commune with the gods and ancestral spirits. However, for the past 78 days, the Kwahu Palace at Abene has remained inaccessible for customary activities due to the presence of security personnel, despite the absence of formal charges communicated to traditional authorities.
Sources at the Kwahu Traditional Council indicate that all available legal processes have been pursued to regain access to the palace. In response to the situation and as a demonstration of unity and resolve, the Council resolved to hold this year’s first Akwasidaekese at the durbar grounds, with full participation from all traditional stakeholders.
Addressing the gathering, Daasebre Akuamoah Boateng III expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Kwahu for their restraint and maturity, particularly in the face of what he described as provocations involving state security officers in recent weeks.
According to him, Kwahu continues to enjoy peaceful coexistence and remains safe for residents and visitors alike.
“Kwahu is at peace and will never be at war,” the Kwahumanhene stated, inviting Kwahu citizens at home and abroad, as well as the general Ghanaian public, to return home this Easter without fear.
The Kwahumanhene also used the occasion to remind the President of the Republic, H.E. John Dramani Mahama, of key infrastructural commitments made to the people of Kwahu during his first term in office. These include the completion of the Abetifi Referral Hospital and the Obomeng–Nkawkaw road, both considered critical to healthcare delivery and regional connectivity.
The Kwahuhemaa, Nana Adwoa Gyamfua III, commended the people of Kwahu for their unity, patience, and peaceful disposition despite ongoing challenges. She noted that attempts to portray Kwahu as insecure through heightened security presence had failed, stressing that the people had consistently chosen lawful and peaceful means to resolve disputes.
Some chiefs present reiterated Kwahu’s readiness to protect its reputation as a peaceful and hospitable destination. They confirmed that visitors would be warmly received during the Easter festivities.
The chiefs also announced the second edition of the Ghana Business Forum, first introduced during the 2025 Easter celebrations with government support. The forum is expected to be a major highlight of the 2026 Kwahu Easter, with the President of the Republic anticipated to attend.
The Kwahu Easter celebrations date back several decades and have grown into one of Ghana’s most significant cultural and tourism events. Initially centred on family reunions, traditional observances, and religious activities, Easter in Kwahu gradually gained national prominence with the introduction of paragliding at the Odweanoma Mountains.
Over time, the celebrations expanded to include durbar of chiefs, street carnivals, church conventions, business exhibitions, and investment forums, transforming Kwahu into a national meeting point for culture, tourism, and commerce during Easter.
Today, Kwahu Easter is widely recognised as a symbol of hospitality, resilience, cultural pride, and national unity, attracting thousands of visitors from across Ghana and the diaspora each year.
