The Ashanti Regional Police Command has launched an investigation into a violent incident in which police officers on routine patrol were attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Jacobu District.
According to a press release from the Ghana Police Service, the incident occurred on January 23, 2026, while a Jacobu District patrol team was carrying out its lawful duties.
The police said officers earlier intercepted a 15-year-old boy in possession of a pump-action gun. The weapon was retrieved, and the boy was instructed to inform the owner to report to the police station with the appropriate documentation.

However, while the patrol team was returning from the operation, they were suddenly confronted by a large crowd of about 100 people who blocked the road. The group, some of whom were allegedly armed with cutlasses and firearms, attacked the officers and forcefully seized a service rifle.
In the ensuing confrontation, police managed to regain control of the situation. The assailant who had taken the service weapon was shot by the police, while another individual sustained injuries. The stolen rifle was subsequently recovered, restoring the security of police arms.
The Police Command has condemned the attack and issued a strong warning against assaults on law enforcement officers.
“The police would like to once again caution the public against attacks on our officers,” the statement said, adding that all persons involved will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law.
The Ashanti Regional Police Command assured the public that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in the attack.
The Police Service reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and called on the public to cooperate with officers during operations, stressing that attacks on police personnel undermine public safety and will not be tolerated.
