45 Foreign Nationals Arrested in Tamale Over Suspected QNET Trafficking

The Northern Regional Liaison Office of the National Security has arrested 45 foreign nationals in Tamale over suspected involvement in QNET recruitment and human trafficking activities.

The suspects, made up of 12 Ivorians, two Liberians and 31 Burkinabès, are believed to have entered Ghana from Côte d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso and Liberia. Security sources say the arrests followed sustained intelligence operations targeting vulnerable peri-urban communities in the Tamale metropolis.

According to National Security, preliminary investigations revealed that the individuals were lured into Ghana under false promises of lucrative employment, international travel opportunities and business prospects linked to QNET schemes.

Providing details of the operation, the Northern Regional Liaison Officer of the National Security, RSM Adams Mohammed, said deeper intelligence uncovered a pattern of deception used to recruit the suspects.

“As we dug deeper, we realised most of them were lured into Ghana with the promise of taking them to Europe or other greener pastures. Some were also brought in specifically to engage in QNET activities and other related operations,” he said.

RSM Adams Mohammed added that national security is not ruling out broader security concerns linked to the case.

“We are not ruling out the issue of terrorism and that of economic migration,” he noted.

Following the arrests, all 45 foreign nationals have been handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for further investigations and appropriate action in line with Ghana’s immigration laws.

RSM Adams Mohammed assured residents of the Northern Region that the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to protect public safety and maintain peace.

“I want to assure the general public, on behalf of the National Security Coordinator, that they should go about their daily activities in peace and safety. National Security is on top of its job and is taking the fight to fish out each and every criminal within our society,” he stated.

He stressed that the peace of the Northern Region and the country as a whole remains a top priority for security agencies, as they intensify efforts to dismantle criminal networks and protect vulnerable communities.
