Mahama Unveils Bold 2026 Roadmap, Promises Faster Reforms and Inclusive Growth

President John Dramani Mahama has outlined an ambitious national roadmap for 2026, signalling an accelerated pace of reforms and development programmes aimed at strengthening social protection, transforming the economy, and consolidating Ghana’s democratic governance.

In his New Year’s Message to the Nation on January 1, 2026, the President said the gains recorded in 2025 have laid a solid foundation for the next phase of national development, stressing that the focus in the new year will be on scaling up initiatives and delivering measurable outcomes that directly improve the lives of Ghanaians.

President Mahama reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to quality education, announcing that the digitalisation of schools will be expanded nationwide to ensure classrooms are fully equipped for 21st-century learning and innovation.

In the health sector, the President disclosed plans to operationalise Universal Health Coverage through the Free Primary Health Care Programme, aimed at guaranteeing access to basic healthcare services for all citizens regardless of their financial status.

He added that the Ghana Medical Trust Fund will be strengthened to support persons living with non-communicable diseases.

On agriculture, President Mahama said the government will prioritise food security by repositioning the sector from subsistence farming to a commercially viable enterprise. This, he explained, will be achieved through mechanisation, value addition, and improved access to domestic and international markets.

Touching on energy, the President announced that the government is working towards achieving a 30 per cent renewable energy share in Ghana’s energy mix.

He said the move will help reduce long-term energy costs while promoting environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

Addressing the country’s housing deficit, President Mahama revealed plans to deliver affordable social housing units through public-private partnerships, aimed at expanding access to decent accommodation, particularly for low- and middle-income earners.

On governance and accountability, the President pledged to intensify the fight against corruption, insisting there would be no “sacred cows” and that every public cedi would be properly accounted for.

He also announced plans to implement the recommendations of the Constitutional Review Committee, describing the move as critical to strengthening the 1992 Constitution and deepening Ghana’s democratic gains.

According to President Mahama, the outlined initiatives reflect a renewed national resolve to build a fairer, more inclusive, and prosperous Ghana, as the country enters a decisive phase of development in 2026.
