NACOC Assures Public of Sustained Crackdown on Drug Dens

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has assured the public that its recent raids on drug dens across the country will not be a one-time exercise but part of a sustained national effort to curb illicit drug activities.

The assurance follows intelligence-led operations carried out in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions under a festive-season crackdown code-named “Operation White Ember”. The coordinated raids led to the dismantling of several known drug dens and the arrest of 72 suspects.

In the Eastern Region, NACOC operatives targeted drug hotspots in Mamfe and Tutu, while operations in the Greater Accra Region covered areas including Madina Redco Flats, Zongo Junction, and the railway slums around Airport City.

Speaking in an interview on Channel One Newsroom on Sunday, December 28, the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations of NACOC, Francis Opoku Amoah, said the Commission remains resolute in intensifying its fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

“Let me assure the general public that it is not going to be a one-off thing. It is something that we will continue to do,” Mr Amoah said. “With our professional training, guidance, support and the leadership of our current management, we are determined to see to the end of everything that we say we’re going to do.”

He called on the public to play an active role in the fight against illicit drugs by reporting suspected drug dens and related activities within their communities.

“Say something once you see some of these activities in your locality, and we will investigate and take action,” he appealed.

Mr Amoah further indicated that NACOC will continue to collaborate with other state security agencies to strengthen enforcement, particularly along Ghana’s coastal areas, which are often exploited for drug trafficking.

The Commission says the sustained operations are aimed at protecting public health, enhancing community safety, and disrupting criminal networks involved in the drug trade across the country.
