The Upper East Regional Police Command has intensified its clampdown on crime in border communities, arresting four suspects and seizing drugs and illegal gaming equipment during a targeted operation in Paga.
The intelligence-led swoop, conducted on Thursday, December 18, 2025, forms part of ongoing police efforts to dismantle criminal hideouts and curb suspected drug peddling and unlawful gaming activities along Ghana’s northern border.

The suspects arrested are Kofi Boateng, Eric Owusu, and Godwin Agosa, all identified as porters, and Abdul Aziz Bukari, a driver’s mate. Police say the four were picked up at separate locations along the Paga border following sustained surveillance and tip-offs from intelligence sources.
During the operation, officers retrieved several exhibits believed to be linked to criminal activities in the area. These included eight jackpot gaming machines suspected to be operating illegally, thirteen rolls of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp, three mobile phones, three pairs of scissors, three lighters, a power bank, an empty phone case, and an amount of twenty-five Ghana cedis.

According to the Police Command, the items seized suggest possible involvement in drug trafficking and unlawful gaming operations, both of which have become growing concerns within border towns due to cross-border movements and limited regulation.
The police noted that Paga, being a major entry and exit point, has been identified as a strategic area requiring heightened security attention to prevent the infiltration of drugs and other illicit activities into the country.
All four suspects are currently in police custody, assisting with investigations.
The Command has indicated that those found culpable will be processed and arraigned before court to face the full rigours of the law.

The Upper East Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across the region, particularly in vulnerable border communities. It also appealed to residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement by providing timely information that can help prevent crime.
Police authorities stressed that operations of this nature will continue as part of broader measures to safeguard lives, protect communities, and ensure that the region remains safe during the festive season and beyond.
