Residents of Akroso Newtown in the Eastern Region have been left counting their losses after a fire razed a self-contained residential apartment, destroying a chamber-and-hall unit and all its contents.
The blaze, which sparked fear and panic among residents in the tightly packed neighbourhood, broke out on Tuesday and threatened to spread to nearby houses before firefighters arrived.

Personnel from the Akim Akroso Fire Station responded swiftly and managed to bring the inferno under control, successfully preventing it from engulfing adjoining buildings in the densely built community.
The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the affected apartment suffered extensive damage but noted that no injuries or fatalities were recorded in the incident.
While the exact cause of the fire remains unknown, fire officials say investigations have commenced to establish what triggered the blaze.
Authorities have once again urged residents to observe basic fire safety measures, especially in crowded residential areas, to help prevent similar incidents.
