Walewale: Gunmen Open Fire On Bus, Two Critically Injured

Two people have been shot after gunmen opened fire on a bus travelling from Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region to Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 16, near Walewale township, leaving the bus driver and a passenger injured. Both victims are currently receiving treatment at Walewale Hospital, sources confirmed.

The bus, operated by Great Imperial Express and bearing registration number GY 3199-21, is believed to have been deliberately targeted. Authorities are exploring possible links to local tensions in the area as a potential motive for the attack.

The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the shooting and launched investigations to identify the perpetrators. They have urged members of the public with information about the incident to come forward to assist in the ongoing inquiry.

No further injuries or fatalities have been reported, and the police are working to ensure the safety of travellers along the affected route.

As investigations continue, authorities have called for calm and heightened vigilance among residents and commuters travelling through the Walewale area.
