Leadership Is About Lifting Lives, Not Status – Adutwum

Former Education Minister and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, has articulated a leadership philosophy anchored in service, humility, and human impact as he positions himself in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential race.

Dr Adutwum is among the aspirants seeking to lead the party into the next general election, and his message, according to close observers, signals a deliberate focus on inclusive and people-driven governance.

Speaking on his vision for leadership, the former Education Minister stressed that true leadership should not be measured by personal advancement or political elevation but by the tangible improvement in the lives of ordinary people.

“Leadership is not about how high you rise, but how many lives you lift along the way,” he said, underscoring the importance of governance that prioritises people over power.

Dr Adutwum noted that listening remains a critical pillar of effective leadership, particularly in a diverse society where citizens face different challenges and expectations. He argued that leaders must actively engage with the public, understand their lived realities, and respond with solutions that are both practical and compassionate.

“I choose to lead by listening, serving and standing with the people,” he stated, adding that leadership must be grounded in service rather than authority.

According to him, standing with the people goes beyond rhetoric and symbolism and requires leaders to share in the struggles of citizens while working collaboratively to address national challenges.

The remarks, shared under the hashtag #TheAdutwumFactor, reflect the former Education Minister’s emerging campaign message within the NPP, one that emphasises humility, accountability, and responsiveness.

Political watchers say the message reinforces Dr Adutwum’s attempt to project a leadership style that blends technocratic experience with empathy, as he seeks to appeal to party delegates and the broader electorate ahead of the party’s internal contest.

As the NPP’s presidential race gradually takes shape, Dr Adutwum’s emphasis on service-driven leadership positions him as a contender advocating governance defined not by personal stature, but by collective progress and national impact.
