Court Grants GH¢50m Bail to Five Accused Persons in Ofori-Atta Trial

The High Court in Accra has granted bail to five of the accused persons standing trial alongside former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta on charges including influencing procurement processes, causing financial loss to the state, and using public office for profit.

Those granted bail are the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 7th, and 8th accused persons: Emmanuel Kofi Nti, Ammishaddai Owusu-Amoah, Isaac Crentsil, Evans Adusei, and Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited (represented through its directing mind).

Each accused person was admitted to GH¢50 million bail with two sureties, who must be justified. They are also required to deposit all passports and travel documents with the court registry and report to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) once every week.

Delivering the ruling on Thursday, December 11, Justice Francis Aponga Achiponga said the objective of bail is to ensure the presence of the accused for trial, noting that all five had already complied with strict OSP bail conditions and were not considered flight risks.

Because proceedings closed late, the judge ruled that the new bail terms would not take immediate effect. Instead, the accused were allowed to return home and are expected back in court on Monday, December 15, 2025, to complete the bail process. Until then, they will remain on their existing OSP bail terms.

The court also directed the accused persons to report to the OSP on Friday, December 12, at 11:00 a.m. to begin the necessary steps toward fulfilling the High Court’s bail requirements.

The accused are alleged to have participated in a scheme that prosecutors say improperly secured procurement contracts for Strategic Mobilisation Ghana Limited, resulting in financial losses of over GH¢1.4 billion, with an additional US$2.8 billion expected to be paid before the intervention of petitioners and the OSP.
