I Mostly Listen To Muslim And Indian Songs- Lasmid

Ghanaian musician and rapper Lasmid has revealed that the music he listens to most frequently and draws deep inspiration from comes not from Ghana or the West, but from Indian and Muslim musical traditions.

According to him, these genres dominate his quiet-time playlists because of their unique sound structures and emotional depth.

In an interview on the Hitz Daybreak Show with Doreen Avio and Kwame Dadzie, the “Friday Night” hitmaker said that while many expect him to draw inspiration from mainstream Afrobeats or contemporary Ghanaian sounds, his ears and heart have long been tuned to something different.

“I mostly listen to Muslim and Indian songs… it depends on my mood, but it’s mostly those songs,” he shared.

Lasmid explained that what fascinates him about these genres is their unconventional style, unpredictable progressions, and spiritual feel. He said their music often shifts through multiple keys and tonal layers, creating an experience that feels both refreshing and mysterious.

“Their songs sound so different… they touch a different key and touch a different key,” he said.
“I love it. The feeling is difficult to express. Sometimes you hear a style and wonder how the person even did it.”

He added that the uniqueness of these musical cultures challenges him creatively and pushes him to explore beyond standard melodic progressions.
