The government has inaugurated an 11-member Ministerial Oversight Committee to steer Ghana’s preparation and participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled to take place across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The committee was inaugurated on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the Jubilee House.
He urged members to execute their mandate with integrity, diligence, and a strong sense of national duty.

Mr Debrah noted that Ghana’s successful participation in the 2026 World Cup will require careful planning and coordination among various state and sporting agencies.

The committee draws representation from key sectors whose roles are essential to Ghana’s World Cup agenda. Members include:
- Stan Xoese Dogbe – Office of the President
- Kofi Adams – Sports and Recreation
- Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa – Ministry of Foreign Affairs
- George Opare Addo – Youth Development
- Yusif Jajah – Deputy Minister, Tourism and Culture
- Ampem Nyarkoh – Deputy Minister, Finance
- Kurt Okraku – President, Ghana Football Association (Chairman)
- Elizabeth Yankah – Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Abedi Pele – Former Black Stars Captain
- Wilhelmina Asamoah – Chief Director, Ministry of Youth and Sports
- One representative yet to be named
To support the Black Stars’ participation, the government has allocated GH¢150 million, which will fund preparation activities, logistics, team support, travel arrangements and related programmes.

The committee is expected to provide policy direction, oversee resource utilisation, and ensure that Ghana presents a competitive and well-prepared team at the global tournament.
