The political and legal battle over the Kpandai parliamentary seat has intensified as incumbent MP Matthew Nyindam has filed notices of appeal and a stay of execution against the Tamale High Court ruling ordering a rerun of the 2024 parliamentary election in the constituency.
The High Court had earlier directed that a fresh poll be conducted within 30 days, citing procedural irregularities at the collation centre that it said compromised the integrity of the results and affected the rights of NDC candidate Daniel Nsala Wakpal.
By filing the appeal, Nyindam—who represents the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—is seeking to overturn the ruling and temporarily halt the rerun until the Court of Appeal determines the matter.

Speaking to Channel One TV on Monday, November 24, NPP Deputy General Secretary Haruna Mohammed defended the party’s legal action and questioned the conduct of the High Court proceedings.
According to him, events on the day of judgement raised concerns.
“Immediately the computer was opened, the judgement was already there. I was surprised because we had not even argued the case in court. What we saw outside were bigwigs of the NDC jubilating before the judgement came out,” he alleged.
Mohammed further argued that the case involved only 41 out of 152 polling stations, yet the judge ordered a rerun for the entire constituency.
“All the pink sheets had been signed by all party agents, and there were no issues with the remaining polling stations aside from the 41. If anything, the rerun should only cover those polling stations,” he said.
He confirmed that both the notice of appeal and the application for stay of execution were filed at 10:04 a.m., shortly after the court issued its ruling.
The appeals process could delay the rerun ordered by the High Court, injecting further uncertainty into the already tense political atmosphere in Kpandai. Both the NPP and NDC regard the seat as strategically important, and the legal tussle is drawing national attention ahead of the fresh parliamentary contest.
