The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service has been formally petitioned to investigate explosive allegations of illegal mining levelled against three regional ministers—claims that were later withdrawn and admitted to be false.
The petition, filed on November 19, 2025, by Daniel Sasu Omari, follows a controversial interview granted by Wendell Nana Yaw Yeboah, Head of Mobilisation at Democracy Hub, on Aluta FM (92.1 MHz). During the broadcast on November 18, Yeboah alleged that the regional ministers for Ashanti, Western and Eastern were actively involved in illegal mining operations.
According to the petition, the claims—made on a public platform—were widely shared across social media and news outlets, threatening to undermine public confidence and derail the government’s intensified campaign against illegal mining.

But after strong public backlash and demands for proof, Yeboah retracted the allegations and issued an apology, admitting that the claims were unfounded. His apology has been attached to the petition as supporting documentation.
Despite the retraction, Omari argues that the gravity of the allegations cannot be ignored. He insists that a full CID investigation is necessary to establish whether the claims had any basis or were made with malicious intent.
He added that accusing sitting Ministers of State of engaging in illegal mining on national radio is “too serious to be overlooked” and risks damaging the reputations of innocent public officials if left unexamined.
The petition also requests that the CID invite Yeboah, the show host, and the producer of the programme to assist with investigations and to present any evidence that may support or disprove the initial claims.
As of now, the CID has not issued any public response to the petition.
