President John Dramani Mahama has delivered one of his clearest and sternest messages yet on corruption, cautioning his ministers and appointees that any official who taints his administration with scandal will face severe and uncompromising consequences.
Speaking during a courtesy call by the Christian Council of Ghana on Tuesday, November 18, 2025, the President said his government would not repeat the mistakes of past administrations, which often looked away while corruption festered.
President Mahama criticised the long-standing tendency of governments to ignore corruption allegations until they leave office, only for subsequent administrations to pursue investigations—a pattern he said fuels accusations of political witch-hunting.

“When a government is in office, when scandals are taking place, they don’t deal with them. They leave it until a new government comes. And when that government begins investigating, the previous administration claims it is being witch-hunted,” he remarked.
The President said he reminds his ministers constantly about their personal responsibility in maintaining the integrity of his administration.
“I have given notice to my ministers. The prosecutions we are currently taking against the previous government will apply to the first person who brings a scandal to this government. We shall hang them on a cross. And you follow our Lord Jesus Christ, whom you cannot resurrect again,” he warned, drawing murmurs of shock and approval from the audience.
President Mahama stressed that his anti-corruption drive will not succumb to partisan impulses or public demands for quick prosecutions. All cases, including those involving officials of the previous administration, will proceed strictly through due process.
“A person, even if accused, must have his day in court. A judge must examine the evidence and decide whether he is guilty or not guilty. You do not take someone to court simply because you believe a crime has been committed. Evidence must be gathered,” he said.
He warned that his government would not rush cases simply to satisfy public outrage if investigators lacked adequate evidence or completed dockets.
The President assured the Christian Council that the government was equipping state institutions with the resources and logistics needed to drive a credible, impartial anti-corruption agenda.
“The fight against corruption will be impartial and fair. We are strengthening the institutions and providing the resources they need,” he said.
