The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and signed by Chief Inspector Brigitte Babanawo on Tuesday, November 18.
According to the CID, the suspect, John Odartey Lamptey, was apprehended on Monday, November 17, 2025, at the family home after the video sparked nationwide outrage on Facebook and other social media platforms. The police further disclosed that two of the suspect’s siblings — Grace Kushie Lamptey and Louis Odartey Lamptey — were also arrested during the operation. The two allegedly attempted to attack a female tenant they believed had recorded and circulated the video, prompting swift intervention from officers.
The tenant, who was reportedly cornered by the siblings, was rescued by the police to ensure her safety.
Authorities also revealed that efforts are ongoing to locate and protect the victim, who left the premises before officers arrived. Police say a dedicated team is working to trace her and offer the necessary support, including medical attention and psychological assistance.
In a strongly worded statement, the Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its resolve to clamp down on domestic violence, stressing that perpetrators will face the full rigour of the law.
The viral video triggered intense public anger, with thousands of Ghanaians demanding swift justice and stronger mechanisms to protect victims of abuse. Many advocacy groups have since renewed calls for community vigilance and timely reporting of domestic violence cases.
