GAF Resumes Recruitment Screening in Greater Accra at 8 Sub-Centres on November 20 After Deadly Stampede

Screening for the 2025/2026 Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise will resume in the Greater Accra Region on Thursday, November 20, 2025, following last week’s tragic stampede at the El-Wak Stadium that claimed six lives and left 28 others injured.

In a statement issued on Monday, November 17, the GAF announced significant changes to the exercise to prevent a recurrence of the November 12 disaster.

To reduce congestion and improve safety, the Armed Forces has expanded the number of screening centres in Greater Accra to eight, spread across five locations:

  1. El-Wak Stadium – 2 Centres
  2. Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 Centres
  3. Air Force Base, Burma Camp – 1 Centre
  4. Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 Centres
  5. Eastern Naval Command, Tema – 1 Centre

According to the statement signed by Captain (Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, all qualified applicants will be processed in batches of 600, each receiving an SMS with their:

  • Reporting date
  • Batch number
  • Assigned screening centre

Applicants who do not receive their SMS notification by Thursday are advised to call the GAF helpline on 0256405104, WhatsApp 0256405154, or check the recruitment portal for updates.

To minimise crowding, the public is strongly cautioned not to accompany applicants to the screening centres. Non-applicants will not be allowed entry.

In a major administrative shake-up, GAF has replaced the entire Greater Accra recruitment team to allow the ongoing Board of Inquiry to conduct an impartial investigation into the circumstances that led to the deadly stampede.

New officers taking over key roles include:

  • Commodore F.A. Nyarko, Director General, Human Resource
  • Colonel F. Kusi-Darko, Director, Manpower
  • Colonel G.B. Eduah, Director, Information Technology

GAF says anyone found culpable will be sanctioned.

The Ghana Armed Forces expressed regret over the tragic incident and extended condolences to families of the deceased. It also assured the public that:

  • All injured applicants will continue to receive free medical care at the 37 Military Hospital.
  • A special recruitment package will be offered to all injured applicants upon full recovery.
  • A similar package will be offered to the bereaved families.

GAF appealed for calm and public cooperation as it implements enhanced safety protocols for the recruitment process.
