The National Identification Authority (NIA) has officially responded to a viral TikTok video in which a social media personality known as “Sefwi Biggest Trapper” accused some NIA officers at the Bono Premium Centre of extorting money from applicants.
In a public notice issued on Sunday, November 16, 2025, the Authority expressed deep concern over the allegations but firmly condemned the conduct of the individual who recorded the video. According to the NIA, his behaviour at the Bono Premium Centre on November 11, 2025, caused significant disturbances and posed risks to other applicants who were present.
Despite the disruption, the Executive Secretary, Mr Wisdom Kwaku Deku, reaffirmed the Authority’s zero tolerance for extortion, corruption, and misconduct among staff, stressing that the NIA remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professionalism.

The NIA disclosed that it has already initiated several steps to address the claims:
- Attempts to reach the complainant and his companion, Ms Appiah Comfort, have so far been unsuccessful.
- The case has been referred to the NIA Internal CID for a full and independent investigation.
- Additional security measures are being implemented across all NIA operational centres to protect both staff and applicants.
The Authority urged the individual behind the video to produce evidence to support his allegations, assuring that any officer found culpable will face strict administrative and legal action.
In its statement, the NIA also took the opportunity to clarify the approved fees charged at its Premium Centres compared to District Offices:
Premium Centres:
- First-time registration – GHS 310
- Update of personal information – GHS 355
- Replacement of lost or damaged cards – GHS 420
District Offices:
- First-time registration – Free
- Personal information updates – GHS 60
- Card replacement – GHS 125
The Authority emphasised that these are the only approved charges, warning the public to be wary of unofficial fees or middlemen.
The NIA reiterated its commitment to transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery, encouraging Ghanaians to report genuine concerns through its official communication channels, including its hotline and email at info@nia.gov.gh.
