Stray Bullets Hit Six Persons, Including A Toddler, In Kwabenakwa Chieftaincy Victory Celebration

A celebratory gunshot following a chieftaincy court ruling in Kwabenakwa, Obuasi East District, has left six people, including a toddler, injured in a shocking incident that unfolded on October 14, 2025.

The shooting erupted when Kofi Cole, a member of the victorious faction in the dispute, allegedly fired live ammunition into the air to mark the legal win. Eyewitnesses say he mobilised some relatives, mounted a tricycle, and began jubilating through the community when the stray bullets struck unsuspecting residents.

The victims, caught in the crossfire, were quickly rushed to health facilities. Four were treated and discharged, while a mother and her child were referred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for further medical attention.

The suspect fled the scene and remains on the run. Police have launched a manhunt to arrest him and are urging community members to assist with credible information.

Residents say the incident has left the town tense, with many calling for stricter controls on firearm use during traditional celebrations.
