KMA Clinic, Nine Other Health Facilities Shut Down in HeFRA Crackdown

The Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Clinic and nine other health facilities have been shut down by the Health Facilities Regulatory Agency (HeFRA) as part of a sweeping nationwide enforcement exercise targeting unlicensed medical facilities in the Ashanti Region.

The closures, which took place on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, are part of HeFRA’s intensified efforts to clamp down on health facilities operating without the required licences and proper documentation.

According to officials, the KMA Clinic had been operating for several years without a valid licence, a direct breach of HeFRA’s regulatory standards. This prompted immediate closure to protect public health and ensure compliance with the law.

The enforcement operation began on Monday, October 13, 2025, and is expected to continue in the coming weeks. So far, 18 health facilities across the Ashanti Region have been closed down for non-compliance.

HeFRA officials say the exercise is part of a broader strategy to eliminate unaccredited facilities and enforce strict licensing and operational requirements, ensuring that only qualified and regulated health providers operate within Ghana’s medical system.

The agency emphasised that unlicensed facilities pose significant risks to public health, often lacking the oversight, equipment, and qualified personnel needed to deliver safe medical care.

HeFRA reiterated its commitment to protecting patients and upholding regulatory standards, warning that operators found flouting the law would face legal action.
