Ghanaian households can begin enjoying automatic DStv upgrades, more channels, and major cost savings from today, October 1, 2025, following a landmark subscription deal struck between the government and MultiChoice Africa.
Announcing the arrangement at a press briefing in Accra, Minister of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations Hon. Samuel Nartey George described the deal as a consumer relief breakthrough that goes beyond the government’s initial demand for a 30 per cent cut in subscription costs.
Instead, the new package delivers value savings between 33 and 50 per cent across all bouquets, easing pressure on households struggling with rising living costs.

“Effectively, MultiChoice has offered value over and above what we expected of them. I went into this with a request for 30 per cent. With what we have discussed here, the lowest is 33 per cent, and the highest is 50 per cent. This reduces pressure on Ghanaian households while ensuring the sustainability of the DStv service in Ghana,” Mr George stated.
Under the new structure:
- Family package customers are upgraded to the Access bouquet worth GHC 99, with 35 extra channels, including live football matches.
- Compact subscribers are upgraded to Compact Plus.
- Compact Plus customers are upgraded to Premium.
- Premium subscribers retain their full content library and automatically qualify for competitions to win trips to watch live EPL matches in the UK.
MultiChoice has also committed to a GHC 555 subsidy for new customers purchasing the Zappa decoder and dish kit, in line with efforts to boost affordability and access.
On piracy and cross-border content theft, the minister revealed that unauthorised foreign decoders, including some Nigerian devices, have already been blocked, with further enforcement planned to protect Ghanaian consumers and the integrity of DStv services.
Mr George hailed the agreement as a milestone in Ghana’s consumer protection agenda, achieved after months of tough negotiations.
“This agreement is not just about pay-TV. It is about protecting consumers, reducing household costs, and ensuring that digital entertainment services operate in a competitive and sustainable environment,” he said.
