VIDEO: Staff Julius Debrah Orders Ministries to Integrate AI into Public Service KPIs
The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has directed all ministries to integrate Artificial Intelligence (AI) into their operations, marking a pivotal step in Ghana’s drive toward digital governance and enhanced public service delivery.
Speaking at the opening of an AI Bootcamp for Ministers of State and designated focal persons at Safari Valley in Adukrom, Eastern Region, Mr. Debrah underscored the importance of AI in modern governance. He revealed that ministries will now be assessed partly on their AI adoption, with clear, measurable key performance indicators (KPIs) to be introduced as part of annual performance evaluations.
“Embracing AI is no longer an option—it is essential,” he declared. “Countries that invest in AI research, digital infrastructure, education, and ethical frameworks will lead the global economy.”

The three-day AI Bootcamp, organised by the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to equip top government officials with foundational knowledge of AI. The program includes discussions on ethical, legal, and policy considerations and identifies opportunities for AI deployment across critical sectors.
Mr. Debrah stated that by empowering ministers and senior officials with AI competencies, Ghana would be better positioned to harness digital tools for inclusive growth, sustainable development, and improved citizen services.
“The integration of AI in government will address structural inefficiencies, enhance productivity, and improve transparency,” he added.
Also addressing the event, Minister of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations Samuel Nartey George reiterated the government’s commitment to digital transformation. He noted that AI holds the power to revolutionise public administration, from improving data-driven decision-making to bolstering national security and strengthening Ghana’s foreign missions.
“AI is not a distant future—it is here. We must integrate it into our strategic institutions to remain relevant and competitive,” the minister stressed.
