VIDEO: Annoh-Dompreh Urges Parliament to Summon Interior Minister Over Recent Rise in Killings and Kidnappings
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh has issued a strong call for immediate parliamentary action in response to a disturbing rise in killings and disappearances across the country.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Friday, July 25, the Nsawam-Adoagyiri MP described the situation as dire, citing a series of chilling incidents in which citizens have gone missing—only for their bodies to be discovered days later.
“It is very sad today; our colleague related a sad matter—killings of innocent citizens—and Mr. Speaker, I say this with a heavy heart,” Annoh-Dompreh stated.

He referenced multiple reports of people disappearing under mysterious circumstances, with their remains found shortly after. While choosing not to disclose specific cases due to the sensitive nature of national security, he underscored the urgency of the matter.
“I can cite them, but it is a national security matter, and I need to be cautious about how I relate to it,” he added.
Invoking Order 60 of Parliament’s Standing Orders, Annoh-Dompreh called on Speaker Alban Bagbin to urgently summon the Minister for the Interior, and potentially the Minister for National Security, to meet lawmakers in a closed-door session.
“I want to come under Order 60 and pray that we invite the Minister for Interior and the national security not to meet us at plenary. You should meet us at close seating,” he urged.
He revealed that just within the last 48 hours, fresh killings were recorded in the Ashanti Region, further compounding public fear and insecurity.
“Even yesterday, we had two killings again in the Ashanti Region. Even today, it has happened again,” he said. “We may also have some good suggestions.”
The Minority Chief Whip argued that Parliamentarians, as direct representatives of their constituencies, possess valuable on-the-ground information that could be crucial in tackling the emerging security crisis.
“Members of Parliament may be carrying unique and diverse information that could be made available to aid the work and operation of the minister,” he said.
He concluded his submission with a passionate appeal to Speaker Bagbin:
“This is a matter we can’t cross over. As the people’s representatives, we have a duty to act, and I pray that the Speaker invites the Interior Minister to meet colleagues at a closed sitting.”
The Speaker is yet to issue a formal directive in response to the plea. However, the growing security concerns are expected to take centre stage in the coming sittings of Parliament.
