Tragedy struck Nalerigu Senior High School on Saturday evening when unidentified gunmen stormed the campus and fatally shot two male students in what authorities suspect is a violent spillover from the ongoing Bawku conflict.
The victims, identified by first names as Lukman and Gideon, were reportedly inside their dormitory when the attackers opened fire, killing them instantly. The chilling incident has thrown the school community and residents of the NortheastRegion into mourning and panic.
Speaking to Myjoyonline, the Assembly Member for Denugu Electoral Area, Dasmani Fuseini, who is also an uncle to one of the victims, confirmed the tragic attack and revealed that the bodies are currently in police custody pending release to their families for burial.

“This is a heartbreaking loss. We never imagined that the conflict could reach this far and affect innocent students,” he lamented.
Security sources have suggested that the incident may be connected to the protracted ethnic violence in Bawku, which has over the years triggered sporadic unrest in surrounding areas.
The Ghana Police Service has launched a full-scale investigation and assured the public of their commitment to bring the perpetrators to justice. In the meantime, calls are growing for government and security agencies to increase protection for schools and public institutions, especially in areas vulnerable to conflict.
Parents, educators, and civil society groups are demanding urgent interventions to prevent further bloodshed and protect the lives of students across the country.
As of Sunday morning, the atmosphere at Nalerigu SHS remained tense, with grieving students and staff grappling with the trauma of the sudden attack. School authorities have yet to announce whether classes will be suspended.
