Telecel Group, a leading telecommunications provider focused on Africa, has reaffirmed its commitment to Ghana’s sustainable development through a landmark digital education initiative dubbed Startocode.
The program, which emphasizes digital skills education, is being implemented in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, in alignment with President John Dramani Mahama’s recently launched One Million Coders Program (OMCP).
At the heart of Telecel’s initiative is the Startocode platform—a multilingual, self-paced digital learning environment designed to make coding education accessible and affordable. The platform has already empowered thousands of learners across Africa and globally, with a strong focus on preparing youth for the demands of the digital economy.

As part of its partnership with the Government of Ghana, Telecel will offer Startocode free of charge to a significant number of Ghanaians who enrol in the OMCP. This move expands access to digital skills training, especially for underserved and rural communities.
“We commend President Mahama for his visionary leadership in launching the One Million Coders Program,” said Moh Damush, Group CEO of Telecel Group. “By providing Startocode free of charge to Ghanaians under this initiative, we proudly support the national effort to equip the youth with vital digital skills that will transform lives and strengthen Ghana’s economy.”
The Startocode platform offers:
- Flexible, self-paced learning modules
- Mentorship and real-world projects
- Multilingual support to break down language barriers
- Accessibility for students in remote and underserved areas
This inclusive approach ensures that learners, regardless of background or location, gain relevant skills for the evolving digital workforce.
The OMCP, introduced by President Mahama in April 2025, aims to train at least one million Ghanaians in essential coding and digital competencies. The initiative forms part of Ghana’s broader strategy to build a future-ready workforce and position the country as a hub for technology and innovation in Africa.
Samuel Nartey George, Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovation, hailed the partnership as transformative.
“This collaboration with Telecel Group is a pivotal step in our mission to bridge the digital divide. The One Million Coders Program is not just about teaching code—it’s about unlocking potential, fostering innovation, and creating sustainable livelihoods across Ghana.”
He added that the integration of Startocode into OMCP democratises access to world-class digital education, marking a bold step forward in the country’s journey toward a resilient digital economy.
A joint signing ceremony is expected to be held under the patronage of Minister Samuel George to officially launch the initiative and celebrate the partnership between the government and Telecel Group.
“We are proud to collaborate with forward-thinking partners like Telecel who share our vision of inclusive digital empowerment,” the minister noted.
Telecel Group has pledged to deepen its engagement with the Ghanaian government and stakeholders to drive long-term sustainable development through education and digital empowerment.
The Startocode partnership marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s digital transformation journey, signalling a new era of opportunity, innovation, and inclusive growth for the nation’s youth.
