CJ Removal Petition: Let Us Not Jump The Gun – Gloria Ofori-Boadu Urges
Human rights lawyer and advocate Gloria Ofori-Boadu has cautioned against rushed judgements and divisive political rhetoric, urging Ghanaians to uphold the principles of constitutional liberal democracy that form the bedrock of the nation’s governance.
Speaking on Newsfile on JoyNews, Mrs Ofori-Boadu emphasised that Ghana has moved beyond basic constitutional rule and is now operating within a broader framework that embraces human rights, civil liberties, and democratic accountability.
“Ghana is not just under a constitutional system — we are in a constitutional liberal democracy,” she noted. “This means we have expanded our democracy to include essential rights like freedom of speech, the right to be heard, and freedom of assembly. These are not just privileges; they are protected under our Constitution.”

She urged political actors, civil society, and citizens alike to approach national issues with caution and a commitment to due process, rather than engaging in actions that could erode public trust in state institutions.
“We should not jump the gun. These freedoms we enjoy today — to speak, to gather, to be heard — must not be taken for granted,” she added.
Mrs Ofori-Boadu’s remarks come at a time when political tensions are high over judicial matters and governance debates.
She reiterated the importance of respecting the rule of law and maintaining Ghana’s democratic stability through dialogue and institutional processes, rather than confrontation or speculation.
