Ghana Airports Company Refutes Drug Trafficking Claims at Kotoka International Airport

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has firmly denied any involvement in alleged drug trafficking activities at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), describing recent claims as false, baseless, and harmful to its institutional integrity.

This comes in response to allegations made by the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, who claimed that two aircraft recently landed at KIA with illegal substances onboard.

In a strongly worded press statement issued on April 8, 2025, the GACL dismissed the allegations, emphasising that all relevant state security protocols were observed and that no illegal substances were found.

“Landing permits of all aircraft entering Ghana are issued by the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) in conjunction with the National Security and not GACL,” the company clarified.

The statement detailed that security screenings were carried out by aviation security and national security personnel, while ground handling services were provided by Swissport. “There was no evidence of any illegal substances on board both aircraft,” GACL confirmed.

The company also denied any interaction between its Managing Director, Mrs Yvonne Nana Afriyie Opare, and Rev. Ntim Fordjour, stating unequivocally that the two have never met, spoken, or had any form of communication.

GACL challenged the accusers to back their claims with concrete evidence: “The onus is on the groups or individuals making false allegations to provide evidence of same.”

Furthermore, the company warned of potential legal action against any person or media outlet found to be peddling misinformation: “GACL hereby serves notice that the company will not hesitate to seek legal redress against any media house, individual or any other entity for any intentional or mischievous publication on Rev. Ntim Fordjour’s false allegations.”

In its concluding remarks, the GACL urged the public to disregard the allegations, describing them as “fictitious and malicious”, and reiterated its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and security at Ghana’s airports.
