Inspector General of Police (IGP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno has announced plans to lift the media engagement ban imposed on police personnel under his predecessor, former IGP George Akuffo Dampare.
According to IGP Yohuno, public cooperation is crucial in tackling crime, and effective policing depends on a strong relationship between law enforcement and the community.
Speaking at a workshop for Public Relations Officers (PROs) on Thursday, March 20, he emphasised the need for transparency, announcing that all regional PRO offices would be reactivated and revamped to facilitate better communication with both the public and the media.

“No society can effectively combat crime without the support and collaboration of its people. This is why effective policing is a partnership that requires officers to work closely with the communities they serve to foster a safer and crime-free environment,” he stated.
He also stressed the importance of police accountability, highlighting that public trust is essential for law enforcement effectiveness.
“At a time when the public demands greater accountability in our service delivery, a well-tested approach ensures police legitimacy and builds public confidence,” he noted.
IGP Yohuno assured that under his leadership, police affairs offices across all regions would be fully reactivated to meet the evolving demands of society and media partners.
The decision is expected to strengthen the Ghana Police Service’s relationship with the public and foster greater transparency in law enforcement operations.
