Youth Association Demands Urgent Government Action to End Bawku Killings

The Mamprugu Youth Association has issued an urgent call for the government and security agencies to take immediate and decisive action to end the escalating violence in Bawku.

This follows the gruesome killing of a military officer on March 17, 2025, which the association says is part of a disturbing pattern of targeted attacks on both security personnel and civilians in the region.

The Association strongly condemns the brazen acts of lawlessness allegedly perpetrated by armed Kusasi bandits and warns that failure to act decisively will further destabilise the area. They are demanding a reinforced security presence, swift arrests of perpetrators, and proactive measures to protect innocent civilians and security personnel alike.

The killing of the soldier is not an isolated case but the latest in a series of violent attacks that have left at least ten people dead in the last month alone. From bus ambushes to assassinations of civilians and military escorts, the Mamprugu Youth Association fears that the situation is spiralling out of control.

“These targeted killings are being carried out with impunity, and the government must act now before the situation worsens,” the group stated.

The Association highlighted a troubling history of attacks on security personnel, citing incidents such as:

  • The 2022 killing of a policewoman in a Kusasi community.
  • The 2023 assassination of an immigration officer in Bawku.
  • Multiple military ambushes in recent years.

“These acts of terror against law enforcement are a direct challenge to national security,” the statement warned.

The Mamprugu Youth Association is demanding that the government:

  1. Deploy more security personnel to the area and increase patrols.
  2. Apprehend and prosecute those responsible for these crimes.
  3. Provide greater protection for civilians and military personnel operating in Bawku.

The Association expressed deep condolences to the Ghana Armed Forces and the bereaved family of the slain soldier, emphasising that their sacrifice must not be in vain.

As tensions continue to rise, the Mamprugu Youth Association insists that decisive intervention is the only way to prevent further bloodshed and restore peace to Bawku.
