Isaac Adongo Addresses Exclusion from Ministerial List, Stays Hopeful

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo, has expressed disappointment over his exclusion from President John Mahama’s list of ministerial nominees but remains hopeful for future opportunities.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Mr. Adongo revealed that his constituents shared in his disappointment. According to him, plans were initially in place for a protest after the President’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) on February 27, 2025. However, following extensive discussions, the demonstration was called off.

Despite the setback, Mr. Adongo remains optimistic, emphasising his faith in the President’s decision-making. “All I know is that the president hasn’t forgotten about me. Maybe my time is not up, but when it comes, nobody can stop me,” he stated confidently.

The MP admitted that he had anticipated a ministerial role, citing his competence and leadership skills. “I was expecting to be made a minister. Everyone wishes for the best opportunities. I believe I have the capacity and temperament to serve,” he added.

In discussing other appointments, Mr. Adongo praised the selection of Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, calling it a well-informed decision. He acknowledged Dr. Forson’s expertise and leadership in parliamentary matters.

Addressing speculation about a potential Deputy Finance Minister role, Mr. Adongo disclosed that some presidential advisers deemed him “above” the position. However, he clarified that he would have accepted the role if offered. “If the Deputy Minister position was presented to me, I would have gladly accepted. It is always a privilege to serve in any capacity if that is where the President wants me,” he noted.

In a related development, President Mahama has appointed Mr. Adongo to the 11-member Bank of Ghana board. The appointment, made in consultation with the Council of State, aligns with Article 70(1)(d)(iii) of the Constitution and Section 8 of the Bank of Ghana Act, 2002 (Act 612), as amended by the Bank of Ghana (Amendment) Act, 2016 (Act 918).

With his new role at the Bank of Ghana, observers are keen to see how Mr. Adongo’s financial expertise will contribute to shaping the country’s monetary policies.
