President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to significantly cut down the number of presidential staffers in his administration, citing the need for a more streamlined and cost-effective government.
Delivering his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) in his second term on Thursday, 27th February, in Parliament, President Mahama underscored the necessity of reducing excessive administrative costs to ensure optimal use of public resources.
“We cannot continue to run a government where the cost of administration outweighs the benefits to the people. My government will take decisive steps to reduce the number of presidential staffers to promote efficiency and accountability,” he affirmed.

The president noted that the growing number of personnel at the presidency in past administrations had resulted in increased government spending.
However, he assured Ghanaians that the planned reduction would not compromise the effectiveness of governance but instead boost overall productivity.
“A smaller, more competent team is what we need to drive our development agenda. We must cut down on bureaucracy and focus on delivering results that positively impact the lives of Ghanaians,” President Mahama emphasised.
This decision aligns with the administration’s commitment to ensuring fiscal discipline and prioritising national development. The announcement has ignited discussions among political observers and the public, with many keenly awaiting further details on how the reduction will be executed.
As the government moves forward with this initiative, stakeholders will closely monitor its implementation and assess its effects on governance and service delivery.
