President John Dramani Mahama has revealed that his administration requires $1.7 billion to complete the unfinished Agenda 111 hospital projects initiated by the previous government.
Speaking during a meeting with the Christian Council, Mahama disclosed that nearly 90 of the hospitals remain incomplete, with some of the commissioned ones lacking essential facilities such as hospital beds.
“The previous government started Agenda 111 but has not been able to finish the hospitals. There are so many of them unfinished. Even the ones they commissioned don’t have a single bed,” he lamented.

He stressed that his government would prioritise the completion of these hospitals to ensure that Ghanaians receive the healthcare they deserve.
To accelerate progress, Mahama proposed a collaboration with religious bodies to help complete some of the stalled projects.
“If the missions have a hospital in an area, we are not coming to compete with the missions by building a hospital. Instead, we will use the resources to improve mission hospitals so that they can provide the service,” he suggested.
He further invited religious bodies to express interest in completing and managing some of the hospitals.
Mahama assured the public that his government remains committed to finishing the hospitals to enhance Ghana’s healthcare system.
With the $1.7 billion funding requirement, the success of this initiative will depend on effective resource mobilisation and strategic partnerships.
